PALACE MOVE AHEAD OF SPURS IN RACE FOR DEFENDER

According to reports from The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly fallen behind in the race to sign defender Joachim Andersen. The reports crept up to the surface of the news headlines of Friday morning and it is now looking like Palace have the upper hand to sign the defender from French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon this summer. The Denmark international star has been a prime defensive target for a couple of clubs this summer following his impressive performances for his country at the Euros earlier in the summer.

Spurs were the first side to have been reported as the major candidates to land the player’s signature but it appears like their interest has cooled off in recent days, especially as they continue to progress in talks to sign Argentina international defender Cristian Romero from Atalanta. Takehiro Tomiyasu is another player on Spurs’ list of defensive targets and they have reportedly approached Italian Serie A outfit, Bologna, over a possible move in the next few days.

Andersen spent last season on loan at Fulham and was one of their best players even though he could not save them from suffering relegation from the English Premier League. With one goal and one assist (two-goal contribution) to his name in the entire 31 Premier League games he played for the Cottagers, he showed huge potential and was also allowed to express himself as one of the club’s leading players.

The Lyon star already has Premier League experience and it would not be difficult for him to fit into the league, meaning that Palace could now accelerate their attempts to land him this summer as New manager Patrick Vieira looks to start improving his squad ahead of next season which is set to resume in August.
